Classification and Ratings of Phenolic Cotton Cloth Rods

The phenolic cotton cloth rod is a kind of thermosetting insulation composite material, which is made by hot pressing after cotton cloth impregnated with phenolic resin.

NEMA LI 1-1998: C, CE, LE

Cotton fabrics are classified by fineness into fine, coarse, and extra-coarse grades. Customers can choose the best suitable grade for their specific application.

Fine cloth rod: Made of fine-textured cotton fabric with excellent processability and smooth surface, suitable for precision machinery and electrical insulation components such as switches and other electrical insulation structural parts, and can be used in transformer oil. The grades include 3721,3724,3725, and PFCC41.

Coarse fabric rod: Made of coarse-textured cotton fabric with high mechanical strength and impact resistance, suitable for heavy-duty mechanical components such as gears and bearings that do not require insulation. The grades include 3722 and PFCC42.

Extra coarse fabric rod: This cotton fabric features a coarser texture and exceptional mechanical strength, designed for heavy-duty machinery components with stringent strength requirements. The standard model is 3723 and PFCC43.

The heat resistance rating of phenolic cotton cloth rods is typically Class E, with a maximum allowable operating temperature of 120°C, meeting the UL 94 HB flame-retardant standard. However, certain applications involve modified phenolic resins and heat-resistant additives, enabling these rods to achieve Class F performance. The rating system can also be customized for specific needs, such as wear-resistant grades with graphite fillers or flame-retardant grades, to meet diverse application requirements.
